The Navajo Film Festival seeks to provide filmmakers with an opportunity to create films that promote the Navajo language. The best films will be selected for a public screening.
Whether you already speak Navajo, or are just beginning to learn, and whether you have been making films for years, or are picking up a camera for the first time, we want you to join us for an evening celebrating the Navajo language.

Awards
Following the screening, a panel of judges will select films for the following awards:
- 1st Place: $300
- 2nd Place: $200
- 3rd Place: $100
- 1st Place: $150
- 2nd Place: $100
- 3rd Place: $50
The Audience Choice Award is open to anyone even if they already won one of the other prizes.
Film Requirements
- Each entry must be filmed entirely in the Navajo language.
- Films should be appropriate for audiences as young as 14.
- Films must not exceed four minutes in length.
- Films must have been created within the last four years.
- The filmmaker must own the rights to their film and not violate any copyrights.
- Only one entry per filmmaker.
- Entrant agrees to grant the Navajo Film Festival permission for accepted films and related marketing materials to be reproduced and distributed – in whole or in part – for purposes of judging, education, and promotion of the festival in addition to the public screening at the festival itself. We are planning on several additional screenings after the main event.
Eligibility
All are invited to participate in the competition! Filmmakers under the age of 18 at the time of submission should get permission from a parent or guardian before submitting.
All submissions will be reviewed to confirm the films comply with these requirements. In the event more than 24 films are received, a committee established by the event organizers will select which films will be screened. Every video selected for the screening will receive a certificate of recognition.
